The Light || Jake and Teddy

She’d been waiting; waiting upon a solemn hope and many an unanswered prayer for him to come home. So when she got the call, Teddy hadn’t dared to believe it. Jake had been gone for far too long, and the lines on Teddy’s face only spoke to where the lonely nights had been, worry weighing heavy on her mind. Yet, the past hour had seemed longer than the past six weeks combined. Waiting on a plane that was due to land any second now, to finally be able to utter the word safe… it was a dream that had clung to her after all this time, and it was so nearly in her reach.

She turned her head. Right there and then, she caught sight of that familiar face; those familiar eyes. A choked sob rising in her chest, it was all Teddy could do not to claw her way through the crowd; a frenzied, heedless run.  Whispers of the cloying rain clung to Teddy’s hair as she stumbled across the arrivals floor, heart racing nearly as fast as her feet; freely, desperately, the tears streamed down her cheeks

After weeks of waiting, she was running into the arms she called home at last.
