I Should Go || Jake and Teddy

“Okay, let me take a look… Teddy? Open your eyes, okay? Stay with me,” Jake said softly, slowly lifting her shirt.

He frowned at what he found. Jake felt his blood pressure rising. What had this man done to her? And this man supposedly loved her? Jake had to fight hard to keep himself calm and composed. He had to fight to keep himself from lashing out about this. For Teddy’s sake. That wasn’t what she needed right now. Jake handed Teddy some tissues and got her a bottle of water before sitting down before her again.

Jake began working diligently to fix her side, resetting the ribs after numbing the area and then wrapping her ribs. “What else, Teddy?” he continued to keep his tone low and soothing.

As Jake’s fingers traced the bruising along her side, Teddy couldn’t help but shiver. It took all of her willpower not to snatch her shirt back and hide herself, for she had never felt more vulnerable than she did right then. Silently, she closed her eyes, going to the place she always went to when Henry’s rage got the better of him.

It didn’t erase the pain, though. Gasping as the gauze tightened around her, Teddy struggled to bite back her scream. No, she wouldn’t make a sound; she wouldn’t let him win.

“There’s nothing else; I’m fine,” Teddy said bravely, though the frantic, terrified tattoo of her heart begged very much to differ.
