He was on his way to the airport. He just wanted to get back to Meredith, Zola and Bailey. Back to where belonged. Derek had thought it would be a simple journey to the airport but then there was traffic, so he took a shortcut that he knew. What he wasn’t expecting was an accident, right in front of him. Getting out of the car, he rushed to see if he could help. Derek did what he could and treated them at the scene. It was a while but help soon came and took the people involved in the accident to the nearby hospital. Derek got back in his car and went to turn his car around. Hearing his phone, he went to grab it. It wasn’t until it was too late that he saw the truck and it hit his side of the car. When he came around, he was in a air ambulance. He had no idea where he was being taken. It was Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital they were taken him to. Derek could hear them asking what his name was and that was when he realized he couldn’t answer them. He ended up arresting but they managed to bring him back. They landed and he could hear the paramedics tell them it was a John Doe who had been involved in a collision with a truck. He couldn’t tell who they were talking to.
Whenever the word ‘arrest’ was made known in an ER, Teddy knew there would be no time to waste. It was touch-and-go, tooth-and-nail by all means and ways. As she neared the patient — so broken and bloodied — it took her a second to realize who this man was. Such was the extent of his injuries — the shattered glass and streaks of dust that coated his worn-out face were so potent in marring the truth.
“Derek?” She gasped, hands freezing over the gash in his chest. Precious seconds slipped through her fingers as her shock got the better of her, knowing that this was a colleague on the table; a friend. “Oh – Oh my god.”
Before she could garner a reply, his vitals bottomed once again. Teddy felt as though she was sparring with death; with a renewed vengeance, she hastened to hold off the ghosts in Derek’s fading eyes, knowing she could never live with herself if she let another woman’s husband die.
