Color-Coded Starter Call! (x)

Red for a violent starter

dr-teddyaltman

All she could see was anger behind her eyelids,
she could never remember feeling more angry
in her entire life. All she wanted to do was hit
someone or something, but she had to restrain
herself somewhat until she was out of sight of
her peers and the patients.

The one person she had always believed that she
could trust had betrayed her. She didn’t have that
big of a belief in Calliope not betraying her because
of experience in previous relationships but when it
came to Teddy, it was  different story.

She was her best friend, she didn’t expect to have
to worry about their trust being broken. She thought
that the woman would always be there for her when
she needed her. It was a silent agreement between
them when they had agreed to be friends.

But that all fell apart the moment Teddy left.

She had followed the other woman into the supply
closet and the tears that had been threatening to
fall finally graced her cheeks. “You don’t get to do
that Teddy.” She grabbed her by the other woman’s
biceps and gripped her tightly.

“You didn’t say goodbye, when I needed you.”

Her grip on the other woman loosened, but her hands
pressed the other woman against the supplies. She
pushed her a little harder than she had intended, but
in that moment all that mattered was her anger.

“I thought we were friends, Teddy.”

Stumbling from the sheer ferocity of Arizona’s
shove,  Teddy gasped and felt the tears spring
to   her  eyes  as  her  shoulder   blades  made
contact  with the metal shelf. It took a moment
for  her  to  right herself, for the shock was too
                s u d d e n ,  too  s o o n .

Where did I go wrong; I lost a friend.
                      Somewhere along in the bitterness…

“Arizona  —”  she whispered,  eyeing the look
on  her  friend’s face. But  could she even call
her  that anymore  —  a  friend?  Teddy  knew
                she’d  been  w r o n g  to take flight without  so
much  as  a  goodbye,    but  she  hadn’t  been
                herself  back  then.  She’d  still  been  fighting;
still  healing  from  her  loss  —  the  fact  that
she  wouldn’t  be the only one hurt  by leaving
hadn’t  even crossed  her mind.  Opening  her
mouth full of  lies  to speak again, Teddy said:
“You  know  I  wouldn’t  have  left  if  I had any
                other choice. I was  f i r e d , Arizona!”

… and I would have stayed
                                            up
 with you all night…

Owen  had  made  her  leave; it was true. But
Teddy couldn’t deny the part of her that didn’t
want  to stay. This hospital had ceased being
her  home  the night it became her husband’s
dying place; those memories no longer filled
                her soul, for they were merely  g h o s t s .

… had I known how to save a life.

But seeing Arizona now, she knew that she’d
been so  wrong to ever leave her. More than
ever, her friend had needed her — and Teddy
had  all but forsaken her for a new life; for her
cowardice.  She’d never been the type to run
when  things  got  rough, but there was a first
                time for everything.

But it was just a shame that Arizona
had been the one to pay the price.
