I Should Go || Jake and Teddy

“You’re sure?” he checked her face gently and made sure there wasn’t anything there. He gave Teddy a warm smile and said, “You should get some rest. I’ll set you up in my guest room,” he offered.

Jake offered Teddy his hand to help her stand, “I won’t hurt you, Teddy.”

It took a second; it took an eternity — but Teddy managed to take his hand. Deep down in her mind, she knew that not every palm sought to strike her, and not every man was him. Jake, certainly, was a friend; even now, his eyes held nothing but kindness.

“I’m sure,” Teddy whispered. “Thank you, Jake. But I can’t stay — I need to go find my daughter.”
