I Choose You || Jake and Teddy

jakexreilly:

Jake was suddenly really glad about the way his home theater system was set up. Sure, it was complicated, but it meant he didn’t have to get up, let go of Teddy and put the movie in because it was all digital through his Apple TV system. He browsed through the list after powering everything on, his arm was around Teddy’s waist and he’d gently moved her over to press her back against his chest and rest there while she sat on the couch.

Choosing the movie, Jake asked, “Pizza or Chinese? Or, I know an Italian place that delivers…”

“I don’t think I can eat; not after today,” Teddy said morosely, cracks in her composure showing through. “But, don’t let me stop you.” Tonight was for self-effacing — forgetting herself, so that she could escape the pain she felt that she had no right to. After all, no one had ever promised her motherhood; not Jake, not any other man in her life.

No, she wasn’t about to guilt herself into leaving Jake’s embrace. If something so supposedly wrong felt so damn right, maybe it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to let her heart take over from her mind. At least, she might just let herself be someone else for the night.
